Tips for Training for Your First Triathlon!
Have you decided that 2016 is the year for you to participate in your first triathlon? Great! You are definitely not alone. Triathlons are one of the world’s top summer sports and are continuing to grow in popularity today. It’s worth noting that individuals prepping for their first triathlon usually have a lingering fear of the unknown. However, if you prepare for yourself well enough, you’ll be more than capable of overcoming any and all obstacles which may come your way in your triathlon! When preparing for your first triathlon you need to know what to eat, what workouts to do and how to warm up properly and what gear you need to choose for the race. So for those first time triathletes, here are just some quick tips from Milestones Sport Jewelry!
Eat Healthy to Prepare for Your First Triathlon
Individuals who want to participate in a triathlon should fuel themselves properly not just on the day of the event, but a full 24 hours before the race as well. Following a healthy diet is an incredibly important step in preparing for your triathlon. Your breakfast should contain about 25-30% protein, 50% of carbs and 20% of fats. Overeating should absolutely be avoided; thus, your portions should be controlled per meal. Focus on eating protein rich foods such as beans and a mixture of meats/ alternatives. Kefir and yogurt are also a good addition to your pre-race diet. Most importantly, stay well hydrated with water!
Follow an Effective Training Program
When preparing for the first triathlon, you need to follow an effective training program. Your training program should include biking, swimming and running. However, you need to train smart and avoid getting exhausted prior to your triathlon. When training for your first triathlon you also should plan your rest properly. Get enough rest to let your body recover after workouts and most importantly, stay consistent with the program!
Warm Up Well, Prior to Triathlon kick-off
Warm-up exercises (such as elephant walk, mock freestyle swim strokes and torso twist) will help you limber your shoulders and prepare your muscles for the triathlon. It’s best to start warming up 20 minutes before the triathlon kicks-off. A good warm up could be the difference in a lackluster turnout vs a finish you are proud of!
Choose the Right Equipment for Your Triathlon
Prepare all the necessary gear for the triathlon. Triathlons are a combination of:
1) Swimming
2) Biking and
3) Running.
Make sure that you have the following equipment: wetsuit, helmet, goggles, bike shoes, cap, race belt, timing chip, energy gel and running shoes with speed laces.
